Successfully launching and growing a business is the dream of millions of entrepreneurs all over the United States. A part of starting and evolving a business is creating a memorable brand that connects with your target market in a way that inspires them to buy the products and services offered by your company, instead of your competitor.
“Brand” became a much used word in 2016, but what exactly does it mean to build a company brand…and more importantly, how do you do it?
According to the American Marketing Association, a brand is a “name, term, design, symbol, or any other feature that identifies one seller’s good or service as distinct from those of other sellers.” While this seems like a simple enough explanation, it’s really quite powerful.
Your brand is meant to distinguish you from others.
Think about it. Your brand is meant to be unique. Burger King, McDonalds, and Wendy’s all sell hamburgers. So why don’t they all call themselves “The Hamburger Place”? Why spend hundreds of millions of dollars in advertising each year trying to differentiate themselves? The answer is fairly intuitive, they are competing for customers and their dollars within a finite market of hamburger eaters. Each company is under pressure to be the vendor of choice when someone feels a belly rumble and thinks “Hmm, I’m craving a burger”.
Is Your Brand Top of Mind?
When it comes to the product or services provided by your company, you want to be consumer’s first choice. To do this, your brand must be unique, memorable, and accurate. Otherwise, you will painfully watch as your potential customers flock to your competitor. THIS is why quality graphic design is critical when you are launching or rebranding your company.
When launching your company, you have a once-only chance to make a big splash and really impress your target market. Your logo, business cards, digital media, signage, and other marketing collateral can be engaging or they can be instantly forgettable. Give your dream the best chance of succeeding by investing in outstanding design! Take the time to create the right symbols, words, designs, and images for your business from the start.
That said, it is likely that your brand will evolve over time. Does that mean you can cut corners during your launch because you can do it better later? No. The last reason you want to rebrand is that your initial launch failed. You want to rebrand because your services have expanded, you are entering new markets, or you are merging with or buying another company. Those are great reasons to rebrand. Well-known companies such as AirBnB, Hershey’s, and Monster all recently rebranded to better align to their growing market and new directions.
Make Graphic Design a Part of Your Business Strategy
Design and business are intimately entwined. There is simply no way to do business without using design. Having a business card or creating a flyer are all a part of design and crucial to you being able to communicate with your target market. A professional graphic designer will help you break through the clutter, simplify your message visually, and get your brand on the right path.
