Graphic Design Mistake #2 – Choosing your logo from an online logo store or using clip-art

This is 2 of 10 graphic design mistakes business owners make and how to fix them.

Why it’s bad:  These sites use their standard clip art logos and sell it to several companies. That’s why it’s so inexpensive. They may have sold those same icon to many real estate companies so now your brand is diluted and will likely look cheap. It’s also worth mentioning that when you buy a generic logo or use clip-art, your logo cannot be copyrighted or trademarked – something you may want as your business grows.

Another consideration refers back to item number 1: Does your purchase include all the file types you need? If not, you will have very limited use of your logo, risk poor printing results, and are likely have a distorted logo on your website and social networking sites. Definitely a case of you get what you pay for.

How to fix it:  Your brand is your company’s most valuable asset. It’s what allows you to attract clients and build the success of your business. Reach out to your network and ask for referrals to a quality graphic designer. Then interview them to make sure they understand your concept and that their services are in your budget.
